Stonewalk Appeal

We need $8,000 in additional funds!

On July 2nd over two hundred Japanese citizens along with six participants from the United States gathered at the atomic bomb hypocenter in Nagasaki for the opening ceremony of Stonewalk Japan - a project honoring “Unknown Civilians Killed in War” and especially, in this 60th anniversary year, the thousands of Japanese civilians who died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945.

This project brings the Memorial Stone to Japan for a 600-kilometer journey from Nagasaki to Hiroshima. It has been an amazing connection of people from two different countries and cultures and from many different paths. We are all aware of the importance of the stone and its message of peace not only for Japan but for the entire world.

We have just learned that a huge import/export tax has been levied for the transportation of the caisson and also for the T shirts we brought as gifts for the people who support us with food, shelter and daily needs. We are now in Yamaguchi Prefecture about 11 days before entering Hiroshima Prefecture. Our closing ceremony will take place on August 4th at the ABomb Dome in Hiroshima. A huge crowd is expected according to the press.

We are asking for donations for Stonewalk-Japan. We have already raised $12,000. And we need $8,000 in additional funds. The Peace Abbey is a 501.c.3 non-profit and your gifts are tax deductible.

Please, make out your checks to The Peace Abbey and put on the memo line “for Stonewalk Japan”. Mail checks to:

We are most appreciative of any help.

In Peace, Dot, Andrea, Bruce, Jim, and Yoko.
