STONEWALK USA 1999: SHERBORN, MA to ARLINGTON, VA

To close this century of world wars by honoring the civilian fatalities of all conflicts since the founding of our nation. Through the 33 day journey of pulling the Memorial Stone for UNKNOWN CIVILIANS KILLED IN WAR from its current location in Sherborn, Massachusetts to Arlington National Cemetery, we seek to increase awareness of the full, true cost of war, and to heighten our resolve as a nation to settle disputes peacefully.

GOALS:

1. The official acknowledgment of civilian victims of war (men, women, children and animals);

2. The placement of the Memorial Stone for UNKNOWN CIVILIANS KILLED IN WAR on the lawn to the north of Arlington Memorial Amphitheater within view of the TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER;

3. The creation of an on-going vigil of sojourners at the Civilian Memorial Stone.

Just as soldier and civilian die together, a great nation such as the United States of America can recognize and honor them together.
